TZW: I think Sugarfish is great if you want the top quality, basic sushi. If you'd like variety, try Izayoi or Sushi Gen- both in Little Tokyo and both excellent. I love Barbrix actually- small plates + wine is my favorite way to eat.

Ohhh, so excited to read this. I don't have a sushi place on my downtown list of favorites. I'll be adding this pronto. BTW- had an amazing meal at Barbrix last night. Their yellowtail hamachi is served fresh grapefruit. Novel and delicious!

The edamame was nicely salted and the salmon/yellowtail were good. I still have my heart towards Sasabune or Sushi Ike though – I like how they don't make you take two pieces of everything so you can try a bit more variety. And the prices are just about the same!

We actually went for dinner, so we probably weren't at the same meal. Did you love it?! My favorites were the salmon with the toasted sesame seeds and the toro handroll.

I was just telling EDBM via Twitter that I work for the owners of the building and got a free meal there too. Did you go for lunch the day or two before they officially opened? Wonder if you were there the same time as me!

edbm: Definitely great sushi and yeah- it's nice to have a place that doesn't overload their menu with all kinds of crazy rolls. There's a time/place for those too, but not at Sugarfish!

allison: You guys should definitely try it! I have a feeling they may expand...maybe they'll be opening up in the PNW one of these days!

When they tell you the rolls are best eaten right away, which translates to "Hurry the fuck up and stop taking photos of our food. EAT!", they aren't kidding. I love nozawa and SF's "Crab Roll". For the price and freshness, you can't beat a place like SF. i love that they don't offer the zillion rolls out there – that would change the whole concept.
